It gives me immense pleasure to learn that MRO Association of India is organising Aero MRO India — Aerospace & Defence 2019 on December 4th & 5th, 2019 in New Delhi.
The indigenisation activities in the Naval Aviation of Indian Navy commenced in 2005 wherein thrust and emphasis was laid on achieving 'self-reliance' utilising indigenous resources with the ultimate objective of developing substitutes to ensure limited dependence on foreign suppliers. In recent years, concerted efforts have been made towards indigenisation of aircraft spares, repair processes and test facilities
The challenges of small fleet of platforms of diverse origin and associated business volume notwithstanding. a steady progress has been made on indigenisation in naval aviation with support from DRDO. DPSU, CEMILAC and Indian Private Industry. A 'Naval Aviation lndigenisation Roadmap (2017-22)' document has been hosted on the Indian Navy website for the benefit of Industries keen on partnering with the Navy in this endeavour.
In addition. setting up of in-country Deep Repair Facility (DRF) in partnership with Indian Industry is being actively pursued. Future induction of platforms would be largely based on 'Buy and Make (Indian)' and Strategic Partnership model. Traditional concepts of DRF within services / DPSU would have to be complemented or replaced with capabilities in Indian Production Agency through their MRO facilities and Performance Based Logistics model. Such contemporary concepts provide the strategic partners, challenges and opportunities in Naval Aviation and the Industry.
The Theme of this year's event is "OEM Support to Indian MRO-. The Indian private sector has also seen an exponential growth in defence aviation sector. At micro level, the focus has been to achieve obsolescence management and import substitution to avoid OEM dependency. I am sure that the congregation of aviation professionals and Captains of the industry, at this prestigious MRO Forum, will deliberate and find solutions in this direction.
I am happy to learn that a large number of Indian and International MRO and Aerospace companies are expected to take part in Aero MRO India — A&D 2019 and discuss the way ahead to drive the -Make-in-India" concept and sustenance of this important and integral part of the aviation industry.
I wish Aero MRO India — A&D 2019 all success. Jai Hind!
